I posted a sewing pattern for the sun hat that I made my mom both on my website, and on burdastyle.
The pattern is in pdf format and can be downloaded from here.
If you happen to try the pattern, I would love your feedback!
And of course, if there are any questions, please let me know.
Your hat is wonderful !
ReplyDeleteAnd I love the way the pieces are sewn together at the top !
I spotted this on BurdaStyle and followed you here. LOVE this pattern. With all the rain this year, thought it would be good in ripstop or something, but made a trial version with some scrap fabric (broadcloth, I think). I used a thin old sheet for the lining. Wow ... turned out so good and cost me $0. The fabric is heavy, irons on a high heat setting & I just can't get all the wrinkles out, but I like it crinkly, the way it turned out. Just had to thank you and post a few photos. Will update with the rain version (if/when I sew it). Here are the photos (feel free to copy & re-post if you'd like):

ReplyDeleteI'm having trouble printing the pattern...is there a printer-friendly version? thanks
ReplyDeleteoh never mind! I figured it out. Thanks for posting the pattern. I can't wait to give it a try
ReplyDeleteHi, just wanted to say that I love your pattern! I've been searching for a pattern for a sun-hat quite a long time, and I'm so glad I found yours. Thanks a lot!
ReplyDeleteIf you like to see some pictures, you can see them here: http://luftmasche.blogspot.com/2011/06/mein-sonnenhut-stolz-wie-oskar.html
Of course it's not as beautifull as yours, but although it's a bit too big and a bit crooked I'm really proud of it (as I'm just a sewing-beginner) and I love it :)
So thanks thanks thanks!
I've made your hat! Great pattern and so easy. I used fast2fuse instead of the Pellon 808 so not sure if it is exactly the same. I've posted pictures on my blog...http://catsnquilts.blogspot.com/2011/06/ive-accomplished-somethings.html
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Wow, what beauatiful creations! Thanks so much Kamilkazeherz and Barb for sharing!
ReplyDeleteDear Lorenna, thank you for the wonderful pattern! I have made your sun hat and would appreciate if you have a look at it in my blog.
ReplyDeleteTatyana from Moscow, Russia.
I made a hat using your pdf and LOVE it! I am not much of an experienced sewer but this was perfect and came out looking almost as good as yours. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog to given a nice. This is really good sun pattern.
ReplyDeleteSun Hat
I just made one of these hats and love it! I have such trouble finding hats to fit me. Thank you for sharing your design. I'm going to sew some of the burp cloths or another hat next!
ReplyDeleteI can't thank you enough! We're pirates of the caribbean this year, and I love making costumes! Your sun hat pattern is being modified slightly to create a pirate hat (I made the brim wider, and then pinned up to make a tri fold hat!). I hope the link will show you my version of your hat. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!

Thanks very much for the hat pattern. I made my first ever hat today. The hat turned out beautifully.
ReplyDeleteCould you offer tips on making this hat fit a 24" head? Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHi, almost 4 years later! Were you able to enlarge it? I was going to ask the same question, but I only need to increase to 23 inches. At first I thought that I would just decrease seam allowance to 1/4 instead of 1/2. Then after printing the pattern, I'm thinking I may just add a 1/4 inch to the pieces. But for the 'pie' head sections I would half the 1/4 & add 1/8 to each side of the pattern piece.

ReplyDeleteGot a link to this pattern... says it is not to be found. Sad.. was living the hat, and waned to make it
ReplyDeleteI’ve made several hats for my kids a few years ago with your pattern. Thank you so much. Turned out perfectly!
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU for this pattern! I love it and will be making more. I made one from up-cycled material and it looks so awesome! I used old jeans for the main part and an old bedsheet for the lining. I trimmed the band in a 3/4" lace and made a sunflower pin to complete it. It is now my BFF's garden hat.
